Britannia 50-50 Potazos: Crunchy, Masaledaar, and Addictive

When someone says “50-50,” what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? For many, especially if you’re a fan of *Kaun Banega Crorepati*, it’s the lifeline that helps narrow down your options and gives you a shot at winning big. But for me, “50-50” brings back a completely different memory—the unmistakable taste of Britannia’s classic 50-50 biscuit. It was that perfect mix of sweet and salty that made it a permanent member of my childhood snack box. That biscuit wasn’t just a snack; it was a mood. And now, that mood has returned in a brand new avatar—**Britannia 50-50 Potazos**, and I couldn’t resist trying it.

This time, 50-50 isn’t soft and crumbly. It’s thin, crispy, and bold. The very name “Potazos” sounds fun and full of promise—almost like a fusion of potato chips and crunchy crackers. I picked up two intriguing flavours from the line-up: Britannia 50-50 Potazos Chilli Americana and Britannia 50-50 Potazos Masti Masala. Both had the kind of names that make you expect a flavour punch, and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

The first one I tried was Chilli Americana. Even before tasting it, the packaging got me excited. Bright, energetic colours and a hint of flame in the design screamed ‘spice alert’. As I tore open the pack, a strong and inviting aroma came rushing out—a combination of chili, tomato, and something smoky that reminded me of barbecue chips. The texture was crisp, light, and almost like a chip had met a cracker. The bite was incredibly satisfying, and the flavour that followed was even better.

Chilli Americana has a bold taste, but not the kind that hits you like a fireball. It’s a layered kind of spice—starting with a tangy note, then a mild sweetness, and finally the heat kicking in, all blending smoothly together. It had a global twist to it, probably inspired by western-style snacks but still friendly enough for an Indian palate. It didn’t numb your mouth, but it did leave a pleasant spiciness behind, just enough to make you crave another one. I ended up munching on them while watching a movie, and before I knew it, half the pack was gone.

Next came the Masti Masala flavour, and honestly, the name says it all. “Masti” hints at fun, and “Masala” means flavour—and this one had plenty of both. The moment I opened the packet, I could smell the masala mix—a delicious chaos of Indian spices that’s impossible to ignore. The aroma itself brought back memories of roadside chaat and masala peanuts served in newspaper cones.

The taste was vibrant from the very first bite. There was tang from dry mango powder, a little kick of chili, some cumin warmth, and even a dash of black salt. It felt like all my favourite Indian spice blends had been sprinkled onto a light, crispy base. This was a full-on desi experience, and I loved every bit of it. What impressed me was how well the thin biscuit held up under all that flavour. It didn’t feel oily or heavy, and the crispness stayed intact till the last piece.

While Chilli Americana had a slow, smooth flavour build-up, Masti Masala was instant and intense. Both are flavourful, but they’re built for different moods. If you want something familiar and spicy with a desi flair, Masti Masala is your pick. If you’re craving a slightly different, smoky flavour with international vibes, then Chilli Americana is the way to go.

The overall idea behind Potazos is refreshing. It doesn’t pretend to be a typical biscuit, and that’s the best part. They’re travel-friendly, great for movie nights, and even pair well with drinks or chilled cola. You could even get creative and use them as a topping on bhel, or crush them over homemade chaat for extra crunch.

With Potazos, Britannia has done a great job of reinventing a classic for today’s generation. It’s still 50-50 at heart—combining different tastes in one bite—but now it’s faster, sharper, and more snack-worthy than ever. Both flavours brought something unique to the table, and I wouldn’t be surprised if more variants join the line-up soon. Until then, Chilli Americana and Masti Masala have definitely earned a permanent spot on my snack shelf.
